A 1st Place Win for Baylor College of Medicine and InformAI at the 8th Annual Resident Research Day

InformAI is pleased to announce a 1st Place award for the best Student Quick Shot Presentation at the 2020 Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery's 8th Annual Resident Research Day Symposium at Baylor College of Medicine. MD/PhD candidate Rowland Pettit presented our talk entitled "Machine Learning Methods for Post-Transplant Survival Predictions."

Every 12 minutes, a new person is added to the organ transplant waiting list, a number that is growing by about five percent each year. Within a single day, 21 people die waiting for an organ match. The majority of these patients are waiting for liver or kidney transplants. Although over 30,000 kidney and liver transplants are performed each year, the patient demand for donor organs far outweighs supply. Optimizing the donor organ-patient match is a key determining factor in transplant success and patient outcomes.

InformAI is teamed with surgeon Dr. Abbas Rana on using AI to improve liver transplant outcomes. Rana serves as a mentor to Pettit.
